Novo Nordisk Most Sustianable Biz in the World; Sprint Funds NSTeens.org - CSR Minute 2/6/12

Novo Nordisk has been named the most sustainable company in the world by Corporate Knights in its eighth annual Global 100 list of the most sustainable large corporations. The 2012 Global 100 used data from several sustainability research firms to identify the top 10 percent of companies out of 3500 businesses, then ranked them by 11 indicators. Comparing countries, the United Kingdom leads with 16 companies on the list, followed by Japan with 11 and France and the US with eight each. Intel was the highest-ranked American company, in 18th place. Sprint has partnered with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children for the fifth year to help kids stay safer online. Sales generated from recycled phones, batteries, accessories, and data cards received by Sprint's charitable phone-recycling program are used to fund new content on NSTeens.org. The site is for the "tween" audience of 8 to 12 year-olds which uses animated videos, interviews with teens, and educational games to teach youth how to protect themselves while online. Since 2008, Sprint has donated almost $2 million dollars in Sprint Project Connect funds to National Center for Missing and Exploited Children for Internet-safety programming. Op 2 februari 2012 reikte wethouder GJ Spelt het prijzenpakket van 'Wecycle' en 'Doe meer met afval' uit aan mevrouw K. van der Hey uit Lopik. Zij is een van de winnaars van de prijsvraag over elektrische apparaten en energiezuinige lampen uit de campagne 'Doe meer met afval' ter verbetering van afvalscheiding, inzameling en recycling in de provincie Utrecht. In september 2011 startten alle Utrechtse gemeenten alweer de vijfde etappe van de gezamenlijke campagne 'Doe meer met afval'. Dit keer werkten zij nauw samen met Wecycle om de gescheiden inzameling en het belang van de recycling van elektrische apparaten en energiezuinige lampen onder de aandacht te brengen. Ruim 2.200 inzenders De prijsvraag in de Afvalnieuws en op www.doemeermetafval.nl leverde ruim 2.200 inzenders op. Inmiddels staan de oplossingen en winnaars op de campagnewebsite. Mevrouw Van der Hey ontving uit handen van wethouder Spelt een doos met leuke gadgets, de campagne DVD en vijf spaarlampen. De prijzen zijn aangeboden door Wecycle, alle Utrechtse gemeenten en Afvalverwijdering Utrecht (AVU). Zij zetten zich dagelijks in om het scheiden van huishoudelijk afval te stimuleren, zodat het weer kan worden hergebruikt. This old workhorse ain't pretty, but she definitely gets the job done.
